History

What We're All About

The school at present is providing quality education to 500 students with 26-trained teachers. The school is registered with Rawalpindi Board. This year the school’s 7th batch for matriculation class appeared in the Board Examination.

Mrs. Salma Mustanir wife of Brig Tirmizi was at a loss after their three children got married and flew off to their new nests as how to spend the spare time at her disposal in 1994. On the spur of the moment she decides to educate the poor children roaming about in the streets. With rupees 10,000 of her Zakat she hired a two-room mud house in Dhoke Chaudrian, Rawalpindi, a Kachi Abadi in Chaklala. She recruited two matriculate local girls and rounded up 25 children from the locality streets urging them to join in class one, for free education, free uniform and books. It was a job to keep these children, boys and girls, five to ten year age bracket in the school. They were often absent from the school and played in the streets instead of coming to school. She would then go to nearby streets and homes of such children to herd them back to school. Gradually they got disciplined and became regular students. She had about 50 students by the end of the year.

Incidentally, the fund of rupees ten thousand for starting school got exhausted in three months time in pay, books, and uniform. She had no more funds being the wife of a retired army officer. Dr. Nusrat Ara the daughter of a friend and her cousine, Mrs. Zeenat Zayad the wife of the World Bank officer came to her rescue and contributed twenty thousand rupees each for the project.

The school then progressed by leaps and bounds and within two years there were more than 150 students with six teachers. The good reputation spread in the locality and school started receiving donation from friends, relatives and local people. The school never solicited financial help through Press, N.G.O or Government agencies.

The school shifted to a new accommodation with five rooms in 1997. It had approximately 200 students with eight teachers. It again shifted to a new accommodation to accommodate the increasing number of students, which had reached a mark of three hundred students with ten teachers. The accommodation was uncomfortable, hot like hell in summer and cold like Arctic in winter. With Allah’s kindness the funds, books and clothes were pouring in the school without any solicitation.

In the year 2000 Mrs. Tirmizi decided to visit her elder son who’s in USA. She asked him to locate Dr. Jamal a cardiac Surgeon in USA whom she had not met for the last thirty years. He located him in Charleston, West Virginia. They traveled to Charleston hoping to get donation of rupees one to two lacs for buying a small plot for the school to begin with.

Lo! Behold a miracle, Dr. Jamal Hameed Khan who had carried out five thousand open hearts Surgeries during the last thirty years offered to build a high school building. A two Kanal piece of land was purchased for rupees 25 lacs. An architect, late Mr. Chishti was engaged to design the building. The tender was floated and was opened in the presence of architect and 12 contractors and the contract was awarded to Commander Sabir for building the school at the cost of 5.6 million in 2001.
The new school building was inaugurated in 2002 with the audience of 500 guests. Dr. Jamal Hameed came from USA with 6 members of his family to attend the inauguration. The school was named Munawar Jehan Apna Model High School.

Madam Munawar Jehan is the late mother of Dr. Jamal who was a social worker and literary figure in the earlier part of the last century.

The school is run by Kitab Welfare trust and its accounts are audited by a very reputable Messrs Khalid Majid and Rehman Chartered Accounts company.
